My Darling Clementine

Clementines-1

This pic was my first attempt to ever really photograph food.  I’ve always appreciated the art of the still life painting and its stereotypical bowl of fruit, but until very recently, I had never tried to take a picture of it myself.  Basically, I took this shot to help convince my talented wife, Kim, that I could maybe lend a hand with her aspirations to launch a food blog, as well as to possibly one day publish a cookbook.

Back in late October of last year, I picked these clementines from the tree outside of our apartment in LA, and one day, their vibrant orange color against the faded green of the bowl just really struck me.  Come February, CestLaVegan.com became a reality, and this image served as her first blog post.

I never would have imagined how much effort goes into making food look appetizing in a still image.  It truly is a discipline onto itself.  I certainly don’t claim to really know what I’m doing, but fortunately, Kim makes some incredibly beautiful meals, not to mention some fantastic baked goodies, which just makes my job all the easier.
