The Sun Also Rises

I’ll admit it.  I’m a sucker for a good sunset pic.  My film & digital negatives are littered with shots of the sun as it casts its magic light and falls beneath the horizon.  What I don’t have a lot of though, are sunrise shots, like the one above.  I forget how the optimist in me basks in the unknown potential of the coming of a new day and the blank page it brings with it.  I should really get up earlier and find the sunrise more often.  But…I do like to sleep, so there’s that.

The above photo is from the balcony of the hotel room (#721) that I had in Malta while working on the film Munich.  We had a lot of night shoots on that little rock of an island in the Mediterranean, but the silver lining was that I got to see a lot of sunrises from a pretty great vantage point.

This is one of my favorite photographs, and I’d like to dedicate it to our friends Shannon & Mike.
