World Cup

world cup

Man, I love me some World Cup.  I’ll be the first to admit that I’m a complete novice when it comes to all things soccer, but I can still appreciate a sporting event that brings the entire globe together.  Plus, there’s nothing better than a pint of Guinness at the pub first thing in the morning while being surrounded by footie enthusiasts and cheering for countries I can’t even point out on the map.  Here’s hoping our boys in red, white and blue can pull out a victory tomorrow against Algeria and thus advance into the next round.   But either way, I’ll be happy to keep watching regardless of who’s playing cause it’s the World Cup, y’all!

Daddy’s Little Girl

dad & whitney

It was my little sister’s wedding on Saturday.  Being ten years older than her, I have to say that I still kind of can’t believe Whitney’s married.  It really wasn’t until I saw her walking down the aisle to “Here Comes the Bride” that I think I finally realized she was about to be wed.  They grow up so fast!

It was truly a great wedding, though the torrential rains in the morning certainly made for an interesting day in preparing for the outdoor reception that night.  Fortunately, after several hours of putting up tarps and mopping puddles, the skies eventually cleared, and it was an incredibly beautiful evening.

Congrats, Sean & Whitney!  Hope you two are having a blast down in Mexico.

Da Hawks

blackhawks

We headed back to Chicago over the weekend for my little sister’s wedding, and on Friday, I took the train into the city to watch the first match of the World Cup with my good friend, Pete.  Just so happens, there was a “little” celebration going on downtown for the Chicago Blackhawks being the newly christened Stanley Cup champions, which I conveniently got to attend.  The news reports say there were 2 million people at the parade, and while I seriously doubt the city has that many hockey fans, there were indeed a ton of people lining the streets to catch a glimpse of the cup.  Clearly, Chicago has been starved for a champion ever since the White Sox won the World Series in ’05.  That and people just love any excuse to party in the Windy City once  summer rolls around, and I can’t blame ‘em!

Side note: for those of you that might have noticed, my posts have certainly fallen by the way side in the past month or so.  I’ve been pretty slammed editing this film for ESPN, and while it’s been an incredible experience and quite the creative challenge,  unfortunately, it hasn’t left much time for photography.  That said, I have managed to take a few new shots of late and do hope to get them uploaded sooner than later.  I appreciate your patience and hope all is well in your world.  -rs
