Huntington pt.1

For those living in or even just visiting Los Angeles, a trip to The Huntington Library is an absolute must. It took us nearly seven years before we discovered this incredible gem, and I still kick myself for having taken so long to find out about it.

Located in Pasadena, The Huntington not only features a fantastic library and art collection, but it’s also home to one of the most amazing botanical gardens I’ve ever seen. With over a dozen garden areas, including the Japanese, Rose, Jungle, Palm and Chinese gardens…I’m telling you, it’s unreal. So when my folks paid us a visit earlier in the year, a trip to the Huntington was at the top of our to-do list, as I knew the gardens would blow them away. And they did.

The cherry on top of the experience for me was that when we were there, it just so happened to be the last weekend of a Charles Bukowski exhibit on display in the library. Bukowski being one of my favorite authors, it was a day of inspiration to say the least!

I recently discovered the Austin trio, UME, at last week’s Rumble, and man, did these two guys and a gal bring it. As the guitarist from The Smiles (who were also on the evening’s bill and were really fun) said to me during the show, “This chick is rocking my face off!” And it was true. Lauren Langner Larson, a cute petite little thing off stage, transformed into a guitar goddess in the spotlight, shredding her ax whilst belting out her vocals. Definitely not to be missed if you get the chance.

I grabbed this shot the other night on the patio of the Chateau Marmont, one of those iconic Hollywood places I’d somehow yet to visit in my 8 years in LA. I kind of love how the reflected light through the glass windows gives the image an almost impressionist quality, and I can see so many different visuals within it. Be it a figure with his arms outstretched, a question mark and/or thong…

I wonder, what do you see in it?

Planet Earth

This past weekend, we went to see “Planet Earth Live” at the Hollywood Bowl. Not only is going to the bowl one of my favorite things about living in LA, but it’s hard to beat seeing such incredible imagery being projected outdoors whilst listening to the LA Philharmonic play along. A good night indeed!
