This past weekend, we went to see “Planet Earth Live” at the Hollywood Bowl. Not only is going to the bowl one of my favorite things about living in LA, but it’s hard to beat seeing such incredible imagery being projected outdoors whilst listening to the LA Philharmonic play along. A good night indeed!

What a great name – The Blue Grotto. It would make a great title for a book, if only I wrote books. I’d never been to the Mediterranean before my time in Malta, and one of the things that still sticks with me till this day was the sensation of floating while you were swimming due to the concentration of salt in the water. The water was warm and you didn’t have to even paddle while you were in it. Pretty much every free moment I had from working on the movie, I spent on, in or around that water. It was something else.

Here’s two shots from my iPhone blended together from the Norway / Slovakia game that I got to go to earlier in the week. It was an exciting game, including a goal with .1 seconds left by Norway in the second period to tie the score. However, it was nowhere near as exciting as the USA / Switzerland game that I also got to see, which was easily one of the most exciting sporting events I’ve ever watched in person. It was a zero-zero affair until the third period, with quite a few twists and turns along the way. But fortunately, the States pulled off the victory to proceed into the medal round.

Here’s the view from the balcony of the condo I’m staying at for the week. In the bottom left hand corner, you’ll see how close the hockey arena is, and unbeknownst to me when I arrived, the Canadians had quite a big game yesterday. Actually, every hockey game for their team is a big deal, but yesterday they played us. So here I was arriving with all my luggage off the Sky Train, right in the thick of the mob of red & white gathering outside of the stadium. It was kind of crazy and quite a fun scene to be amongst once I got rid of my stuff. And it was even more fun, though a touch depressing, when the Americans won 5-3!

Yesterday’s pic reminded me of this campfire shot I took last summer up in the Angeles National Forest at a place called Buckhorn. I don’t know about you, but I could stare into a campfire for hours. It’s probably my favorite thing about camping; just sitting around the fire chatting with friends and maybe a cold beer in hand. Can’t beat it.

Sadly, we only got to go camping there once in ‘09 before the massive Station Fire happened, which resulted in the closing of the campground for most of the year. I’m definitely looking forward to getting back up there though, and here’s hoping it’s still there…
