I took this pic a couple of hours ago at tonight’s Rumble, and without a doubt, the guys and gals in Seattle’s United States of Electronica (or U.S.E.) were the highlight of the night for me. I’ve never seen more people up on that tiny stage (seven of ‘em), and everyone in the room was having a good ‘ol time for their entire set.
And now it’s time to go to bed.

These local kids, otherwise known as Princeton, not only look like they’re 14, but the lead singer could probably pass for Napoleon Dynamite. That said, they played a helluva set at The Rumble over the summer, reminding me of the age-old proverb to never judge a book by its cover.
And just a reminder for those in LA, The Rumble’s in town tonight, so be sure to head over to Three Clubs for a dance-tastic lineup sure to have the club bouncing off the walls all night long.

Also on the April Rumble line up was Fresno’s Rademacher, who provided the highlight of the night for me with a stripped-down, gut-wrenching cover of Paul Simon’s “Graceland.”

Here’s a shot from The Rumble back in April of Austin’s The Frontier Brothers. Say what you will about their music, but you’ve got to respect the face paint.

If you live in LA and you’re a fan of live music, you owe it to yourself to get your ass over to the Three Clubs in Hollywood for The Rumble. Normally on the first Thursday of every month, The Rumble is a Future Sounds showcase of three new bands that you might not know of…yet. Future Sounds’ CEO, Larry Little (apart from being a good friend and a great guy) really knows how to pick ‘em when it comes to the indie rock scene. Larry has turned me on to countless amazing bands, many of which have gone on to become “house-hold” names. Because of Larry though, I heard them months before most.
Due to the Labor Day holiday, this month’s Rumble has been pushed a week to this Thursday (the 10th), and all week, I’ll be posting pics from Rumbles past. And by the way, if you don’t live in LA, don’t fret – there’s a good chance a Rumble’s already brewing in your neck of the woods. They’ve sprung up in San Francisco, Brooklyn & Seattle, just to name a few, and there’s plans in the works to bring the gig to Austin & Chicago soon.
The above shot is of the Band of Skulls, London’s three-piece answer to The White Stripes. These Brits tore the walls down of the tiny club back in June, and if you haven’t heard of the band yet, I’m guessing you’ll know them well soon.
